Central African Republic: a matter of survival for the displaced
Thousands of people in north western Central African Republic abandoned their homes and took refuge in the forest when fighting between government forces and armed rebels broke out in 2006. The ICRC is providing essential household items to over 13,000 families living a precarious existence between stability and flight.

ICRC delegate Michael Dürst and ICRC field officer, Alain Placide Poutya, visit the displaced regularly to find out how items they have received from the ICRC are being used in the bush, and to listen to their needs so that assistance can be targeted appropriately. Ten-year-old Valorin Djabao’s denim shirt is in shreds. People who have fled their homes all across C.A.R. say that clothes are one of their most pressing needs.
