Central African Republic: a matter of survival for the displaced
Thousands of people in north western Central African Republic abandoned their homes and took refuge in the forest when fighting between government forces and armed rebels broke out in 2006. The ICRC is providing essential household items to over 13,000 families living a precarious existence between stability and flight.

Members of the Central African Red Cross’s theatre troupe during a performance to heighten people’s awareness about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and how to avoid infection. The troupe is working in cooperation with the French Red Cross which is implementing an HIV/AIDS awareness programme in C.A.R. The show took place under the palm trees in a poor neighbourhood in the country’s capital, Bangui. It attracted a huge crowd, including many children. The show – which included music, comedy sketches, and dance – has been performed all over the country.
