Central African Republic: a matter of survival for the displaced
Thousands of people in north western Central African Republic abandoned their homes and took refuge in the forest when fighting between government forces and armed rebels broke out in 2006. The ICRC is providing essential household items to over 13,000 families living a precarious existence between stability and flight.

Before the distribution of household supplies to displaced families began, ICRC field officer, Ambroise Macka, explained to the beneficiaries how it was going to happen. He also told them about the work of the ICRC in C.A.R. and about the opening of a sub-delegation in Kaga Bandoro in January 2007. He explained that with so many thousands of people having fled their homes because of conflict, the Red Cross has a crucial role to play in providing assistance, and ensuring that civilians are not harmed when clashes occur.
