Sudan: ICRC continues to expand its activities in Darfur
In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in western Sudan and Chad, where around one million people have been displaced due to the bitter conflict in Darfur, the ICRC has expanded its level of operations. It is also begun to enter areas that were previously inaccessible owing to logistical or security constraints.

The ICRC, with 80 expatriate and 315 local staff now present in Darfur, is continuing to remind all parties to the conflict, at all levels, of their obligations under humanitarian law and to encourage them to ensure the protection of displaced and resident civilians and the wounded and the sick.
