| 28-04-2009 Photo Collection Memories of Angola Seven years after the end of the conflict that devastated Angola, the ICRC is scaling back its activities there. In July 2009 it will close its delegation in Luanda, but will continue to monitor the situation in Angola from its delegation in neighbouring South Africa. ICRC staff who worked in war-torn Angola as far back as 1975 share their memories.

Kuito. Food distribution in a transit camp, 1982
"The commitment of my Angolan colleagues and friends was inestimable. It outweighed he hunger that gnawed at their own children day in and day out. Despite the malnutrition affecting their own families, they watched over the correct use of the ICRC's food aid with strict attention, taking profound offense when any supplies went missing along their hazardous way to the people who most needed them." Brigitte Meng Comninos, delegate,1980-81
