Uganda: twenty years of conflict
After two decades of fighting between the Ugandan authorities and the Lords Resistance Army there remains little sign of a peaceful solution. In response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation, the ICRC resumed its field activities in 2004, suspended three years earlier after the killing of six staff members in north-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Distribution of relief at Luzira prison. The ICRC supports the efforts of the detaining authorities by distributing blankets, jerry cans, cooking utensils and soap to a number of places holding detainees. In several prisons, it also helps improve the prison diet by providing seeds, tools and agricultural training. The ICRC and the prison service signed an agreement in 2005 to jointly assess the condition of prison buildings, their water supply and sanitation facilities.
