Uganda: twenty years of conflict
After two decades of fighting between the Ugandan authorities and the Lords Resistance Army there remains little sign of a peaceful solution. In response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation, the ICRC resumed its field activities in 2004, suspended three years earlier after the killing of six staff members in north-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

IHL dissemination to police officers in Kampala district. The ICRC holds training sessions for police officers both in Kampala and in the field focusing on the organization's mandate and activities. Nearly 1,000 police officers attended such programmes during 2005. In addition, the ICRC and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have signed an agreement to draw up a three year programme aimed at integrating human rights standards and humanitarian principles into police training courses.
