Uganda: twenty years of conflict
After two decades of fighting between the Ugandan authorities and the Lords Resistance Army there remains little sign of a peaceful solution. In response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation, the ICRC resumed its field activities in 2004, suspended three years earlier after the killing of six staff members in north-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Kitgum district. A camp for the displaced. Around 1.5 million people are now said to have fled their homes because of the conflict. The ICRC continues its activities on behalf of those affected by the violence, aiming in particular to improve living conditions for the internally displaced in remoter camps by providing safe water, sanitation, farming tools, seeds, essential household items and healthcare. In late 2005 the ICRC had reduce some of its field activities following LRA attacks against humanitarian personnel. Since early March 2006, the security situation improved and most programmes are running to schedule.
