In its capacity as a neutral and independent intermediary, the ICRC is also able to offer its good offices for the repatriation of those detained by their enemies during the course of an armed conflict. Here, Ethiopian prisoners of war undergo a final identity check before returning home. Such repatriations under ICRC auspices began in June 2000 even before the end of the war between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
