Gaza: let the seeds grow
Agriculture is a lifeline for a sizeable portion of Gaza's population. When the sector took a severe blow during the recent fighting, a lot of people were left struggling to cope with this fresh setback. Now, those who can are picking up the pieces, as the ICRC’s Iyad Nasr explains.

The agricultural sector has deteriorated steadily since Israel's disengagement from Gaza in 2005. The creation and extension of a buffer zone has led to the loss of much of the fertile agricultural land. Frequent military incursions have resulted in the repeated destruction of farms and fields in areas near the buffer zone. Farmers who get too close to the fence are often killed, wounded or arrested.
