| Section The ICRC in Belgium Regional delegation in Brussels The ICRC has been working in Brussels since 1999 to build strong institutional and operational relations with European Union institutions, NATO and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. As European armed forces expand their role in operations outside the Union, the ICRC has stepped up its efforts to explain its mandate and working procedures to officers, in order to facilitate relations in the field and ensure respect for international humanitarian law (IHL). More generally, the ICRC's aim is to mobilize political, diplomatic and financial support for its activities, to ensure that the victims of armed conflict receive the protection and assistance they need, and are entitled to under IHL. Covering: Institutions of the European Union (EU), the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
