Central African Republic: a matter of survival for the displaced
Thousands of people in north western Central African Republic abandoned their homes and took refuge in the forest when fighting between government forces and armed rebels broke out in 2006. The ICRC is providing essential household items to over 13,000 families living a precarious existence between stability and flight.

Near Kaga Bandoro, central C.A.R. – An ICRC convoy carrying household supplies passes a village water pump on its way to a distribution point in the forest outside Kaga Bandoro. Thousands of people have fled into the bush to escape conflict in the region and are living in precarious conditions without adequate shelter and food. Village water pumps provide clean water, but for the displaced even this essential commodity is often not available. Having lost their possessions when they fled their homes, families are lacking even the most basic items they need to survive.
