Profession: Tigrinya interpreter/translator
In the field

Your task

  • oral interpretation: from Tigrinya to English, and from English to Tigrinya during confidential interviews with persons detained, ICRC institutional dissemination, message delivery and visits to families of detainees
  • written translation: translation of written Tigrinya (newspaper articles, correspondence, etc.) into written English
  • analysis and reporting: analysis of conditions of detention, security and other matters relating to ICRC's mandate
Selection requirements

  • ideal age: 25 to 45
  • prepared to accept unaccompanied posting for a 12-month mission
  • excellent command of Tigrinya and English; Amharic an asset
  • university education or minimum 2 years of professional experience
  • driving licence (for manual transmission vehicles)
  • fully conversant with IT tools
