Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement calls for action on humanitarian challenges
Concluding the first-ever Red Cross and Red Crescent Council of Delegates in Africa, Movement leaders from more than 180 countries called on governments and others to join forces with the Movement to help improve the lives of the most vulnerable. Meeting 150 years after the Battle of Solferino, which led to the creation of the Red Cross Red Crescent, the Council expressed solidarity with all struggling to cope with 'today's Solferinos' – be they armed conflict, natural disaster, poverty, climate change or the current global economic crisis. Harvesting olives in the West Bank: not as simple as it sounds
