In the final round, Nalsar’s team triumphed over a team from the Faculty of Law at the University of Colombo, representing Sri Lanka. The prize for best advocate went to Antara Singh of the Kathmandu School of Law in Nepal, the prize for best researcher to Barun Ghimire, also of the Kathmandu School of Law, and the prize for best memorial to Nalsar University of Law.

Six law schools – one each from Bangladesh, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka – took part in the event. Their teams argued a fictitious case involving rape, the intentional destruction of cultural heritage, the use of child soldiers and of illegal weapons, and crimes targeting ethnic groups.

Sitting judges of one of India’s high courts, practising advocates, legal advisers working for the Indian government, officials from the Judge Advocate General’s Department of the Indian Army and professors of international law judged the teams.

The competition is named in memory of Henry Dunant, co-founder of the ICRC and spiritual father of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Its aim is to raise awareness of international humanitarian law among law students.

The event was organized by the ICRC in cooperation with the Indian Society for International Law. The winning team will represent South Asia at the Asia-Pacific Moot Court Competition which will be held in Hong Kong on 7 and 8 March 2008.
