Destroyed buildings in the Haret Hreik suburb of Beirut – The crisis in Lebanon wrought destruction on a massive scale, killing hundreds of civilians, injuring thousands and displacing almost a million people. In Beirut, public schools and parks were quickly filled to capacity from the outset of hostilities, with civilians fleeing the suburbs in the south of the city, followed by a steady exodus from towns and villages in southern Lebanon.
