Our world. Your move. Events in Nepal.

World Red Cross/Red Crescent Day on 8 May began with a rally in Kathmandu involving over 1500 people. Schoolchildren, representatives of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, UN and international organizations covered a distance of 3 km, carrying banners with the campaign slogan “Our world. Your move.”

The first “move” was when the adults were asked to vacate the shady tented area so the children could get out of the sweltering heat. The request was greeted by cheers. Perhaps not from the adults, but they did “make their move”!

Ballons with pieces of paper bearing the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement were released into the sky and there were prizes for those who found them and brought them back.

Other parts of Nepal joined in the celebrations, with events from Rupandehi to Kailali to Kanchanpur. These included rallies, street theatre, a radio programme, a drawing competition, poetry and an exhibition of photos about missing families.

Our world. Your move. Events across the globe.
