National implementation of international humanitarian law: children
International humanitarian law affords children the same general protection to which civilians not participating in hostilities are entitled. Given their particular vulnerability, children are also afforded special protection when they are participating in hostilities. Some treaties also impose limits on such participation. The ICRC Advisory Service encourages States to adopt national measures to ensure that children enjoy the legal protection to which they are entitled and offers to assist them in so doing.
