ICRC decision-making structures
How the International Committee of the Red Cross is structured: a description of its governing bodies and their functions (Assembly, Assembly Council and Directorate).

J. Kellenberger, President
The ICRC is governed by an Assembly (the supreme governing body), an Assembly Council (a subsidiary body of the Assembly, to which the latter delegates certain of its powers) and a Directorate (the executive body). The Assembly and the Assembly Council are both chaired by ICRC President Jakob Kellenberger, Ph.D.

In 2002 the Assembly decided to modify the structure of the Directorate to enable senior management to better meet the challenges facing the organization in the coming years.

International Advisers of the ICRC, 2008 - 2011
The purpose of the group of International Advisers, set up by the ICRC for a four-year period to provide it with counsel and support in its activities and policy decisions, is to seek appropriate ways to enhance respect for IHL in armed conflicts, to help the ICRC better understand and deal with the political issues it encounters in carrying out its mandate and to assist it in analysing the environment for humanitarian endeavour.
