Bakool region. The ICRC delivering water to civilians.
The humanitarian situation in Somalia has sharply deteriorated in recent months, keeping a growing number of people dependent on external humanitarian assistance. Working closely with the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS), its main partner in Somalia, the ICRC is therefore continuing to provide emergency assistance, giving first priority to people in life-threatening situations.
The ICRC distributes relief food and essential household items to thousands of people displaced by fighting or affected by drought in central and southern Somalia, trucks water daily to hundreds of thousands more and rehabilitates water points in a number of regions. 11-9-2009 Somalia: drought and conflict limit the country’s vast agricultural potential For almost 20 years, Somalia has been ravaged by war. Here, he explains the programmes developed by the ICRC to re-start agricultural production and ease people’s suffering.
