Chad: Relief for 40,000 internally displaced people
N'Djamena (ICRC) – An operation to deliver 70 tonnes of aid to some 40,000 internally displaced people in the Dar Sila and Assoungha regions of eastern Chad began on 15 January with the arrival in Abéché of an Antonov-12 cargo plane loaded with supplies.

The aid, consisting of blankets, jerrycans, tarpaulins, mats and soap, is to be distributed in the areas near the Sudanese border that are the most difficult to reach. A total of five round-trip flights are expected to be made between Nairobi and Abéché.

The first distributions have already begun in Marena (Dar Sila) and will continue in Borota (Assoungha), bringing an initial consignment of relief to some 15,000 people.

The ICRC has 170 staff (including 35 delegates) in Chad, where it has been active since 1978.
