Chad: national commission for the implementation of international humanitarian law
A workshop on the topic "The national commission and the implementation of international humanitarian law in Chad" is being held in N'Djamena today and tomorrow.

The purpose of the workshop, which was organized by the ICRC, is to support the work of the future national commission for the implementation of international humanitarian law in the country. The commission will include representatives of civil society and of the ministries of foreign affairs, justice and defence. It will be in charge of monitoring the various humanitarian law treaties signed and ratified by Chad and of incorporating their provisions into domestic law.

The workshop began today with a technical meeting at the ministry of foreign affairs, in which the future members of the commission and ICRC legal advisers took part. This first meeting will be followed tomorrow by a round table in which five experts representing the commission and the ICRC will give a public account of the workshop and explain the role of the future national commission.

All over the world, in accordance with its mission, the ICRC promotes respect for and implementation of international humanitarian law (also known as the law of war), in particular the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols of 1977 and 2006.
