Nepal: ICRC urges respect for ambulances
Kathmandu (ICRC) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has called for medical personnel and medical transports in Nepal to be spared in all circumstances.

During the recent events in Nepalgunj and Lahan, the ICRC witnessed the difficulties faced by those endeavouring to provide medical services. “We are very concerned about the consequences of the recent violence,” said Mary Werntz, the ICRC’s head of delegation in Nepal. “We call on both security forces and demonstrators to exercise restraint and urge them to allow medical staff, ambulances and humanitarian workers to carry out their tasks during demonstrations, strikes (bandh) and curfews.”

The Nepal Red Cross Society stands ready to transport the sick and injured to medical facilities and the ICRC continues to monitor the situation.
