The International Review of the Red Cross invites and encourages the submission of articles touching on issues related to international humanitarian law, humanitarian policy or humanitarian action (cf. Mission Statement), and provided the article has not been published, submitted or accepted elsewhere.

Articles are peer-reviewed prior to a decision of their acceptance for publication. The final decision whether a text is published or not is taken by the editorial board, who also determines the date of publication.

Notification of acceptance, of rejection or of the need for revision will be given within a couple of weeks after receipt of the manuscript. Manuscripts will not be returned to authors. Authors should follow the Review's Instructions for Referencing and Footnotes.

• Content and length:

1. first page with the name of the author
2. a biographical note (CV) that should not exceed two or three lines.
3. Manuscripts should be sent together with a 100-word abstract of the article
4. the text of the article itself (5,000 to 12,000 words)
5. tables, graphs or any other additional document

• Language: Manuscripts may be submitted in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. The Review will translate and publish selected articles in English.

• Titles: there are only 3 levels of titles: the first one in broad style, the second in normal style, and the third in italic.

• Notes and references: They should be presented as footnotes under the text (not at the end of the article) and follow the Instructions for referencing and footnotes for the International Review of the Red Cross

Manuscripts may be submitted directly by electronic mail (Word for Windows attachment) or as a hard copy and a diskette (Word for Windows).
