This animation brings to life the story of the creation of the Red Cross, Red Crescent Movement and its history to date. The comic strip was created by the world renowned artist Jean Giraud, alias Moebius.

Vulnerable people in Somalia are caught up in the spiral of hardships caused by an intractable conflict, perennial drought and the global food crisis. Food distribution to residents of Danay, in the Galgadud region of Somalia, is part of the ICRC’s effort to help them cope with their plight. As the organization’s Patricia Danzi explains, "we are here to help people who have suffered during the conflict and want to get over that. And we are here to support them."

When the pain in John Owor's ulcerated leg got too great to bear, his son called out the bicycle ambulance. They had no money to pay for a car so this was the only way John Owor could reach the nearest health centre. The bicycle ambulances are proving popular – so far the ICRC has supplied 15, and more are on the way to help people living in rural parts of northern Uganda. See also feature article.

With the help of the ICRC, four children in the Lukolé refugee camps prepare to leave Tanzania to return to their families in Burundi. The organization has been active in this camp since 1994 and reunites people across borders under three conditions: the unaccompanied children must give their consent, families are ready to welcome them and security conditions are sufficient to safely resume their past lives - contains links to Kiswahili and Kirundi versions

On 19 June 2007, an independent panel of media professionals awarded the prize of Best News report to the Télévision Région Lausannoise (TVRL) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for a co-produced report called 'Rape Violence in the DR Congo'. The item was broadcast on CNN International on 4 and 5 November 2006.

The violent clashes in Burundi have provoked a massive displacement of the population, resulting in an increased need for drinking water in the areas where the displaced have settled. In French only.

In 2006, the ICRC produced an 11-minute video about the integration of the basic principles of international humanitarian law into the doctrine, training and operations of the Uganda police and defence forces.

A gradual improvement in the security situation has recently allowed some 45,000 people to return to their homes in the Kibirizi area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The ICRC is providing the necessary materials that will help people resume the lives they had before they were forced to flee their villages at the beginning of the year.

The ICRC is supplying food, tools and seeds to those affected by the conflict in Darfur. The assistance is intended to tide people over until the next harvest and prevent them having to leave their homes to join those already languishing in camps for the displaced.

In November 2001, twenty workers from Jogimara in Dhading District headed off to Kalikot to work at the airport construction site: 17 of them did not return home. There has been no official word on their fate and their families have no idea what happened to them.
