Pabbo is the biggest camp in northern Uganda's Amuru district.

The ICRC replaced the existing hand pump with an electric pump in March 2006. Having trained local people in maintenance of the borehole, it is now handing over the entire project to the local community and authorities.

Meanwhile, the ICRC is drilling 62 new boreholes in 24 camps for internally displaced people in northern Uganda's Kitgum, Pader and Amuru districts. Such projects provide drinking water for thousands of people. They also improve hygiene, thus protecting camp residents from water-borne disease.

The ICRC is active in 64 such camps with nearly 800,000 residents. It provides medical care, encourages healthy practices, increases the water supply water, helps with sanitation, delivers aid and promotes respect for international humanitarian law.
