When the pain in John Owor's ulcerated leg got too great to bear, his son called out the bicycle ambulance. They had no money to pay for a car so this was the only way John Owor could reach the nearest health centre. The bicycle ambulances are proving popular – so far the ICRC has supplied 15, and more are on the way to help people living in rural parts of northern Uganda. See also
