The situation arising from the conflict in Darfur in western Sudan is currently one of the world's most urgent humanitarian emergencies. Some one million people have been forced to flee their homes and at least 10,000 people have been killed in the conflict that has pitted government forces and Janjaweed militia against the rebel forces of the Sudan Liberation Movement / Army and the Justice and Equality Movement.
