Convention (III) relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Geneva, 12 August 1949.
C. Correspondence card and letter (see Article 71)
[p.671] ANNEX IV
C. CORRESPONDENCE CARD AND LETTER ' (See Article 71
The model correspondence card and letter are also based on the experience of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Provision is made for them in Article 71
, which states that such letters and cards "must be conveyed by the most rapid method" available.
The models correspond in size to the usual format for postal correspondence. The letter is to be folded in half, so that prisoners of war will write their message on the reverse side and fill in the information required on the front. It cannot be over-emphasized that is to the advantage of both the Detaining Power and prisoners of war to conform to the models proposed.
