South Africa: Jean-Pictet Competition on IHL

The Jean-Pictet Competition is a week long training event on international humanitarian law (IHL) intended for students (undergraduate or above in Law, Political Science, military academies, etc.) It consists in “taking law out of the books”, by simulations and role plays, allowing the jury of the Competition to evaluate teams’ theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of IHL. The ICRC has contributed financially to the hosting of the competition in South Africa.

New documents have been posted online on the 2012 page of the Jean-Pictet Competition website. If you are interested in this edition, please consult it on a regular basis.

The 2012 Edition will take place from , 14 to 21 April 2012, in South Africa (Winterton/Drakensberg).

To register, teams must consist of three students, from the same institution, none of whom has taken part in the Competition before and all of whom should generally be under than 30 years old.

The ICRC headquarters in Geneva and the ICRC Pretoria delegation have contributed financially to the hosting of the competition in South Africa. Three employees of the ICRC are participating in the competition as members of the jury (one from the Geneva headquarters and two from the field, namely New Delhi and Pretoria regional delegations).
