31st International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, Geneva, 28 November to 1 December 2011.

The 31st International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent will be held in Geneva from 28 November to 1 December 2011. As co-organizers of the Conference, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies look forward to welcoming members and observers to this event. The convocation, preparatory documents and practical information are available below.

This convocation is addressed to all the members of the International Conference, who, pursuant to Article 9 of the Statutes of the Movement, are:

  • the duly recognized National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies;
  • the International Committee of the Red Cross;
  • the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies;
  • the States party to the Geneva Conventions.

Registration and visas

Registration

The convocation to the International Conference sent in May 2011included a practical information note, inviting participants to register online. This is done electronically using the EVENT registration system of the International Federation:

In order to be able to register, the following is required:

  • An official invitation letter to participate as a member of the conference or an observer:
  • An e-mail address and access to the Internet
  • The Conference code provided with the convocation.

Participants can register either as individual participants, or as a delegation or a group. Detailed instructions are provided in the Event registration system, as well as information regarding travel arrangements, hotel reservations and visa requests.

Successfully registered participants will receive a confirmation by e-mail.

Badges

Access to the International Conference Centre is restricted to registered participants identified by wearing a personal badge. Participants are invited to collect their badge in person at the conference centre. Heads of Delegations receive a special badge that enables them to vote (for the election of the Standing Commission, for example).

Visas

Instructions for obtaining a visa are also given on the registration website.

Generally, participants should gather information about the requirements to obtain a visa to enter Switzerland. For participants who need a "Schengen" visa, the request must be made within the deadlines to the relevant Swiss representation. Participants should also make sure that a granted "Schengen" visa allows for transit through the territory of the European Union, if necessary.

Venue of the Conference and hotels

The Conference will take place from 28 November to 1 December 2011 at the International Conference Centre Geneva (CICG), rue de Varembé 17. 1211 Genève 20.

For accommodation of the Conference participants, 950 rooms in different hotels in Geneva have been reserved. A list of hotels is available on the registration website, where you can reserve your hotel.
