After nearly half a century of conflict, the villagers living on the banks of the Rio Caguan in southern Colombia are cut off from basic health care.Diseases which should be minor rapidly become life-threatening. In an emergency, people are left to cope as best they can.Known and accepted by both sides in the conflict, the ICRC regularly travels 400 kilometres up this remote river, taking doctors and nurses tothe aid of people inextreme need.
From the field
This series of short films tells the stories of people struggling for survival in the shadow of war. It also shows the efforts of the Red Cross and Red Crescent to bring relief – treating the sick and wounded, working in prisons, providing food and clean water, or tracing family members lost in the chaos of conflict.
