An Indian's Heart – of Love and Care

16 January 2017

Conflict and other situations of violence not only lead to loss of life, but also destroy people's homes and livelihood. Many people get separated from their families. The trauma and anguish of missing loved ones causes immense suffering and in all of this children are especially vulnerable.

When Saira Siddiqui – a social worker residing in Delhi – came across three boys from Afghanistan in the bylanes of her neighbourhood, she offered them a home to stay and even joined them on their quest to search for their missing family. Not knowing what lay ahead, they started a journey together – one that was filled with compassion and humanity.

A few days after Saira, along with the boys, approached the ICRC, our 'Trace the Face' service was able to locate their elder brother in Austria. An online call was organised after which the siblings finally saw each other after a long time and poured their hearts out.

Now, they are hopeful of finding their father, mother and sister also some day.
