Operations Officer for Beirut and Mount Lebanon

ICRC is recruiting an "Operations Officer for Beirut and Mount Lebanon" for the main files: Palestinian and networking (security)

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been present in Lebanon since 1967 and has carried out its humanitarian work through different periods of conflict, including Lebanon’s 15-year-long civil war from 1975–1990. We are currently responding to the rapidly growing needs of displaced people fleeing war and violence across the region into Lebanon as well as the local communities hosting them.

Our activities on behalf of people affected by war and violence include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring people affected by conflict can get basic health care that meets universally recognized standards
  • Building respect for the law
  • Securing humane treatment and conditions for detainees
  • Restoring economic security through assisting communities and individuals to cover their essential needs with dignity
  • Providing access to basic services such as water and electricity
  • Supporting the families of the missing persons in the search for their loved ones

We are based in Beirut and have offices in Tripoli, Tyr and Zahle.

Job Purpose:

Under the direct supervision and in support of the DHoD (Deputy Head of Delegation) the Operations Officer is the focal point for the ICRC activities in the governorates of Beirut and Mount Lebanon. He represents the ICRC at local level and contributes to the definition, implementation and monitoring of ICRC projects and activities in coordination with the management, and heads of departments. He is also responsible for monitoring security, developing and maintaining networking, as well as analyzing and following up the Palestinian file in support to the Deputy Head of Delegation.

Your profile:

  • University degree from the faculty of law and political sciences or faculty of business
  • 3 - 5 years' work experience in a similar field (work experience with Palestinian refugees and humanitarian networking (security))
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken Arabic and English (writing reports)
  • Good computer skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the geographically assigned environment, in particular related to security
  • Very Good analytical skills
  • Very Good communication and negotiation skills
  • Empathetic, autonomous, sociable and open to cultural diversity
