ICRC President pays official visit to Japan

Geneva (ICRC) – President Jakob Kellenberger of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has arrived in Japan for a three-day official visit.

During his stay, Mr Kellenberger will be received by their Majesties the   Emperor and Empress of Japan. He will also meet with Minister for Foreign Affairs Makiko Tanaka, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Seiken Sugiura, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoshiji Nogami, and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda.

In these meetings, Mr Kellenberger will present the humanitarian activities carried out by the ICRC across the globe in areas affected by armed conflict, and discuss cooperation between the organization and Japan. The Japanese Red Cross will play host to the ICRC President in Tokyo on Tuesday and Hiroshima on Thursday.
