ICRC president visits Canada

Geneva (ICRC) – Jakob Kellenberger, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has arrived in Ottawa for a two-day visit during which he will hold talks with the minister of foreign affairs, Peter MacKay, the minister of national defence, Gordon O'Connor, the minister of public safety, Stockwell Day, the president of the Canadian International Development Agency, Peter Greenhill, and other Canadian officials.
The ICRC president is also to meet with the Canadian national commission on humanitarian law.
The talks are expected to focus on the situation from a humanitarian perspective in some of the ICRC’s main areas of operations, the relevance of international humanitarian law in today's conflicts, and issues related to the cooperation between Canada and the ICRC.
The ICRC president is also to meet with the leadership and staff of the Canadian Red Cross, which has long been an important partner of the ICRC.
