After 20 years of conflict, most of Mogadishu is in ruins, its people trapped. Amidst the despair, a team of doctors and nurses led by Dr Mohamed Yousuf offers a lifeline, operating on people injured in the fighting, resuscitating others and restoring hope to the families of those injured in the constant crossfire. These photos by André Liohn offer a rare, exclusive insight into a world where doctors and nurses struggle to keep patients alive, against all odds. The images in triage, on the operating table and in the spartan rooms distil the powerful spirit of humanitarianism that pervades this ICRC-supported hospital.
