Hong Kong: local university wins IHL regional moot court competition

A team from the University of Hong Kong was the winner of this year’s tenth anniversary regional moot court competition on IHL, which saw students from 20 Asia-Pacific universities striving to take one of the region’s most prestigious student awards.
Hong Kong took the prize from last year’s winners, Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. Students from the University of Melbourne, Australia, were the runners-up. Teams from Iran and Vietnam participated for the first time and the event had a strong live presence on social media.
Over three days (8-10 March 2012), competitors took part in simulated trials that dealt with cases anchored in the reality of conflict and violence.
The event was organised by the Hong Kong Red Cross and the ICRC, together with three major local universities. The judging panel included some 70 distinguished judges and lawyers from Hong Kong and elsewhere.
