Hong Kong: University of Hong Kong wins regional moot-court competition

Beijing (ICRC) – At the 10th Asia-Pacific Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot-Court Competition, held in Hong Kong earlier this month, the University of Hong Kong defeated 19 other teams to emerge as champion. The runner-up was the University of Melbourne. Albert Wong of the winning Hong Kong team was named best mooter.
The competition was co-organized by the Hong Kong Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in cooperation with the law schools of the University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The event, held in the Hong Kong High Court, brought together nearly 70 students, their coaches, and more than 70 legal experts. At the prize presentation ceremony, Geoffrey Ma Tao-li, chief justice of the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong, declared that the annual competition had become "an important date on the Hong Kong calendar of legal events."
The ICRC actively promotes international humanitarian law all over the world. Moot-court competitions familiarizing law students with international humanitarian law are among the many initiatives undertaken with this aim.
