PURPOSE

The Intern helps the IHL Department of the ICRC Regional Delegation for East Asia mainly with the preparation and organization of various national and regional events as well as with the update of the Customary International Humanitarian Law Study.

SCOPE

  • Assist with the preparation and organization of national and regional events
  • Collect domestic law and other State practice for the Customary IHL Study
  • Help with other research work, if needed
  • Help with administrative work in the office, if needed

REQUIREMENTS

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with at least two years of legal education. Graduate student preferred.
  • Good knowledge of Chinese law and public international law
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Good computer skills, especially for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

WORKING HOURS

  • 5 days per week

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Understand and adhere to the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • Understand and adhere to the ICRC Code of Conduct
  • Understand the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • Respect and observe staff regulations and security rules at all times
  • Represent the ICRC in a professional manner at all times
  • Develop and maintain a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers
  • Perform all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary.
