This internship provides practical exposure to accounting, accruals, account analysis and reporting while supporting the CTR team in its day-to-day activities. 

The intern will primarily contribute in providing reliable, accurate, and timely accounting data through implementation of various accounting tasks and services. S/he adheres to the existing financial rules set by the FAD division to help maintain ICRC’s trustworthiness and business continuity. 

Main responsibilities

Under the guidance and supervision of the CTR Team Lead and designated CTR team members, the intern will:

  • Participate in Field year-end closing activities, including the review of accrual declarations, accounting entries, reconciliation and preparation of year-end adjustments of the assigned delegation/s.
  • Coordinate and follow up on year-end queries with the field delegations.
  • Prepare and compile supporting documentation for KPMG PBC requirements.  
  • Perform integrity checks of account balances and assist in investigating identified issues.
  • Review accounting transactions for accuracy and completeness in accordance with financial procedures.
  • Keep files up to date and ensure proper filing of relevant supporting documents for future reference, including audits.
  • Assist with STM management by monitoring incoming requests, maintaining and properly filing relevant documentation and communications, and routing requests to the appropriate team members.
  • Assist in responding to technical and non-standard inquiries, as appropriate.
  • Develop familiarity with relevant field financial applications and provide user support when appropriate.
  • Participate in regular monthly closing activities.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the CTR team as required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including insurance monitoring and reporting processes. 

Selection requirements

  • Preferably currently pursuing, or a recent graduate of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Management Accounting, or another related business/finance field
  • Motivated, curious and eager to learn
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Interest in accounting, finance, data and business processes
