PURPOSE

The department would like to recruit an intern to mainly assist with the following:

  • To support analysis on the following themes of the delegation's interest.
  • To assist the team in routine office tasks and in organizing activities and events.
  • To facilitate the delegation in developing or strengthening connection with his/her academic network.

SCOPE

Analysis:

  • Offering perspectives on important developments, policies, diplomacy related to humanitarian issues in China and globally.
  • Complementing academic perspectives on China's foreign policy by following official communications and policy trends related to evolving situations in key contexts (e.g. Afghanistan, Myanmar, Ukraine, the Middle East, Africa, etc.), contributing to the delegation's contextual understanding and internal knowledge-sharing in various formats.
  • Complementing the department's reading of development in the Chinese tech sector and its points of convergence with humanitarian operations.

Assistance:

  • Support preparation work for meetings, high level visits and events hosted by the department.
  • Share daily routine office tasks.

Network development:

  • Expand or strengthen the delegation's relationships with leaders, professors or researchers at his/her university.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Current undergraduate (senior) or graduate student with at least two years of education majoring in international relations, politics or relevant field.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Good computer skills, especially for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PPT).
  • Experience in organizing events or in office work.

WORKING HOURS

  • At least 4 days per week at our delegation.
  • Expected to work for approximately 3 months.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Understand and adhere to the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
  • Understand and adhere to the ICRC Code of Conduct.
  • Understand the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
  • Respect and observe staff regulations and security rules at all times.
  • Represent the ICRC in a professional manner at all times.
  • Develop and maintain a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers.
  • Perform all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC.
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary.
