In today's world, journalists play a crucial role in shaping public opinion and awareness about conflicts and humanitarian crises. However, accurate reporting in such situations requires familiarity with IHL and humanitarian principles.

On March 4, 2024, over 20 journalists from a diverse array of Belgian and EU media outlets, freelancers, and EU correspondents joined ICRC IHL and PR experts to learn more about the legal frameworks applicable to conflicts and situations of violence, the different components and mandates within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and best practices in conflict and humanitarian reporting.

As the global landscape continues to witness evolving conflicts and humanitarian crises, the need for informed and accurate reporting has never been more pressing. The ICRC remains committed to supporting journalists in their mission to shed light on humanitarian issues and advocate for protecting vulnerable populations.

It's important that we build relationships and provide forums where journalists can ask questions and seek greater understanding of IHL
