The Government of Monaco announced the renewal of its three-year funding plan for ICRC field operations for the period 2026–2028. The new plan includes a 50% increase in the total contribution compared to the previous cycle, providing the ICRC with greater capacity to deliver assistance and protection to people affected by armed conflict.
Monaco also reiterated its commitment to promoting respect for the rules of war. This includes actively taking part in the global initiative for humanitarian law, an exceptional effort launched last year by states and the ICRC. Monaco is among 90 states that have officially joined the initiative.
“As armed conflicts increase in number and intensity, Monaco’s renewed and expanded commitment will help our teams protect and save lives in conflict zones across the world,” said President Spoljaric. “I am also thankful to Monaco for taking an active part in the global initiative for humanitarian law. At a time when the rules of war are under strain, we need states to defend international humanitarian law and uphold humanity in war.”
“The ICRC is often the only organization able to reach war zones to provide relief, treat the wounded, and defend human dignity. Its international legitimacy allows it to engage in dialogue with all parties to a conflict in order to ensure compliance with humanitarian law. Today, when more than 90% of the victims of the 130 conflicts around the world are civilians, it is important for the Government of Monaco to reaffirm that war has limits and that the parties to a conflict must respect them,” emphasized. Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director General of the Department of External Relations and Cooperation.
Monaco has supported the ICRC for more than 75 years. Its high quality and predictable funding helps preserve the ICRC’s neutral, impartial and independent status.
Through these contributions, the ICRC has been able to carry out humanitarian activities in conflict-affected contexts, including the protection of civilians, access to health care, physical rehabilitation, economic assistance, support for missing persons and their families and humanitarian diplomacy.
The ICRC is present in more than 90 countries worldwide to protect victims of armed conflict and to promote respect for international humanitarian law.
