Promising Pathways for the prevention of sexual violence 2024

Addressing sexual violence is a core part of the ICRC’s humanitarian and legal mandate, and preventing it is one of the organization’s priorities. In 2022, the ICRC launched its Prevention of Sexual Violence Programme (PSVP). This multi-country, multidisciplinary, and results-oriented initiative aims to strengthen efforts to reduce the risk of sexual violence—or prevent it altogether—by influencing the underlying attitudes and practices of weapon bearers and communities in fragile contexts affected by conflict or violence. The PSVP also supports a shared challenge across the humanitarian sector: measuring the effectiveness of efforts to prevent sexual violence. This document highlights the ICRC’s achievements and lessons learned from 2024.
