United Kingdom/Ireland: ICRC's London mission expands remit to Ireland

The London mission of the ICRC has formally extended its responsibilities to include Ireland as well as the United Kingdom.

The ICRC's London team has long been liaising with the Irish government on issues such as international humanitarian law and humanitarian policy. Now the London mission will officially function as a link to the Dublin government.

The change strengthens the London team and acknowledges Dublin’s strong support for the ICRC’s efforts to assist victims of conflict and protect detainees around the world.

The change also allows the ICRC in London to strengthen its links to the Irish Red Cross. The mission already supports Irish Red Cross activities aimed at spreading awareness of IHL (also known as the law of armed conflict) and enhanced communications support and community projects are in the pipeline.
