Armenia/Azerbaijan: Medical patient arrested during transfer through Lachin Corridor

News release 29 July 2023 Armenia Azerbaijan

Since December 2022, as part of its internationally recognized humanitarian mandate, among other activities, the ICRC has facilitated the transfer through the Lachin Corridor of over 680 patients needing life-saving medical care. The organization works in full transparency, coordinates its activities with the sides, and only operates with their agreement, which was the case for today's operation.

The ICRC will visit the arrested patient as soon as possible and is in contact with the family.

The transfer of medical patients is a humanitarian activity of critical importance for vulnerable populations. The ICRC calls for all concerned decision-makers to respect its strictly humanitarian mission.
