Speech by the President of the International Society of Military Law and the Law of War, Jan Peter Spijk, at the opening of the exhibition.

As the world remembers the centenary of the First World War, the ICRC Delegation to the EU, NATO and the Kingdom of Belgium and the Belgian Red Cross created an exhibition on the role of the Red Cross during the Great War. It highlights the work of the Red Cross then, and its work nowadays, often very similar. It also allows visitors to look up if any of their ancestors were registered as Prisoner of War during '14-'18. The exhibition can be visited freely at the In Flanders Fields museum in Ypres, Belgium, until the end of December 2014.
