Fourth Meeting of Representatives of National Committees on International Humanitarian Law of Commonwealth States
Over 80 representatives from 23 Commonwealth States met in Namibia from 14 – 15 June to participate in the Fourth Meeting of Representatives of National IHL Committees of Commonwealth States. The Meeting focused on the theme of "Generating greater respect for IHL: A Commonwealth Perspective", and highlighted the role that can be played by National IHL Committees in this regard.
"Promoting regular peer-to-peer engagement and support between Commonwealth member countries is critical for reinforcing national and international commitments to generating respect for IHL. Their shared legal heritage will enable the meeting to focus on solutions and approaches to strengthening the law that can easily be adapted across all 52 member countries," said Marie-Pierre Olivier, Legal Advisor at the Rule of Law Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat.
At the end of the meeting participants adopted an Outcome Document containing commitments and recommendations for the way forward.
