Angela Ponce Romero, this year's winner of the ICRC Humanitarian Visa d'Or, was presented the award last night at the Visa pour l'image festival of photojournalism in Perpignan, France. The winning portfolio was the culmination of four years' work photographing relatives of missing people in Ayacucho, Peru. Angela plans to put the 8,000 euros prize towards new projects.
The festival was also an opportunity for Angela to meet the winner of the first Humanitarian Visa d'Or, Catalina Martin-Chico. Catalina received the award in 2011 for her images documenting the conflict in Yemen, which has been the focus of her photojournalism work since 2007. She recently accompanied the ICRC's president on a visit to the country. Details of her trip can be found in the latest copy of French magazine, Marie-Claire.
